RES043Description
Built in 1894 for Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Meriam. Mr. Meriam was from Quincy, Illinois but had traveled to Italy and was influenced by the villas outside Rome. The name "Villa Tusculum" was carved into the wall in front of the home. The home was built of first grade redwood. The original cupola was severely damaged in the 1906 earthquake. The 1989 earthquake also did much damage. Pat O'Laughlin and Margaret Kilkenny, who bought the house in 1985, supervised extensive repairs and remodelling. The house earned a Bellringer award in 1987. It was featured on the Los Gatos Museums Historic Homes Tour in 1999 and 2004. SEE ALSO: Historic Homes Tour Programs. RES043Collection
