Description

Mail was originally delivered to a "Camp on Snake River" due to tensions and military presence in the area following conflicts like the Ute War. In the early 1880s, the post office was officially established as "Baggs Crossing". It was named after Margaret "Maggie" Baggs, who served as the settlement's first postmaster. The small town of Baggs eventually sprouted around her ranch and trading post. The post office continued to be a focal point even after the town of Baggs was formally laid out and plotted in 1896 by Rawlins businessman R.C. Major.
