Description

Prior to local telephone exchanges, rudimentary phone and telegraph lines were run by large cattle operations and the military connecting the Union Pacific Railroad tracks down through Baggs. Early 20th-century service in the region was provided by localized entities like the Intermountain Telephone Company, eventually centralizing through community-based local exchanges.
