Description

Battle, Wyoming was officially established as a remote copper mining camp in 1898 high in the Sierra Madre Mountains at an elevation of 9,925 feet. It served as a rough-and-tumble freighting stop and social hub on the wagon road between the rich Ferris-Haggarty mine and the town of Encamp. At its peak, the lively settlement hosted five saloons, two hotels, retail stores, a school, and a local post office running from 1898 to 1905.
