Dixon Saloon John Irons Pro.

Is Butch Cassidy in this photo?: In this historical black-and-white photograph, a group of men, dressed in period clothing typical of the late 19th century, are seen casually posing outside a wooden building with a sign that reads "Dixon Saloon, John Irons Pro." The establishment features a covered porch, and the men appear relaxed, with some leaning against a railing or sitting, while one man stands with a horse tied nearby.

Description

In 1900 at the age of 58, John stopped ranching and became a saloon keeper. He continued operating the saloon until 1920, the beginning year of Prohibition. The John Irons, like many Western gin joints, had a false wooden front, a wide boardwalk flanking the dusty street, a couple of hitching posts, and a long polished bar with no seats. Most patrons drank straight liquor-rye or bourbon. Men, often unknowns, who ordered "fancy" cocktails or "nursed" their drinks were sometimes forced to swallow a fifth of 100-proof at gunpoint "for their own good."
