Description

Robert McIntosh (known as "Old Mac" or "The Canny Scot of Snake River") founded the family's history in Slater, Colorado, establishing a remote general store, raising horses on a large scale, and supporting local education. After mining slowed, he relocated north to the Snake River valley and founded the iconic general store at Slater, Colorado, which served as a vital regional hub 80 miles from the nearest rail line in Rawlins, Wyoming. McIntosh was a close friend of the famous mountain man and scout Jim Baker, whose ranch was also along the Snake River. McIntosh later placed and engraved a stone monument in Slater to mark Baker's life dates. McIntosh also built a local schoolhouse in Slater, showing a deep personal commitment to children and education.
