The Bulldog Saloon was a notorious frontier watering hole in Baggs, Wyoming, opened in July 1895 by Jack Ryan and his partner James Kite. It is best remembered as a popular hideout and gathering spot for Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch, who famously shot up the establishment and compensated Ryan for the damages. After a major heist, the Wild Bunch gang celebrated at the Bulldog Saloon and proceeded to shoot up the premises, riddling the wooden bar with bullets. Rather than skip town without paying, Cassidy reportedly reimbursed Ryan with $1 for each of the 25 bullet holes left in the bar. The saloon was situated right next to the Vernon Hotel in the remote frontier town of Baggs, making it a perfect haven for outlaws slipping between the Wyoming and Colorado borders.Create Date
