Description
A stunt Dead Man's Chest lid from the production of Gore Verbinski's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) focused on the fabled "Dead Man's Chest" as a means of escaping his debt from Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) after learning it held Jones' still-beating heart. Disgraced James Norrington (Jack Davenport) stole the heart and presented it to Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander), who used it to control Jones and the seas.
Cast from black rubber for stunt purposes but ultimately unfinished and unseen in the final cut, this chest lid is detailed with ornate patterns along its sloped top and sides. It exhibits a buildup of grime and notable pitting on the bottom. Dimensions: 37.5 cm x 22.25 cm x 11.5 cm (14.75" x 8.75" x 4.5")
