Description

A bloodied special effects cursed Aztec coin from the production of Gore Verbinski's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. In the climactic scene, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) sliced his hand in order to mingle his blood with the Treasure of Cortes and lift the curse on the crew of the Black Pearl. While a coin like this is seen in the film, it is unknown if this coin is seen in the final cut of the film. This gold-color coin was made for the sequence by legendary propmaker Keir Lusby Props. It is cast on both sides with a skull-and-sun motif based on a real-world Aztec finial, applied with red wax to simulate blood spatter, and drilled with a hole at bottom for special effects inserts requiring the use of a mounting rod. The coin is intentionally distressed by production to appear ancient with holes through the plating and tarnishing. Dimensions: 1.5" x 1.5" x 0.25" (4 cm x 4 cm x 0.75 cm)
