Star: Hero Blank-Firing Rebel Trooper Dh-17 BlasterEntry/Object ID
OPPS87Description
A hero blank-firing Rebel trooper DH-17 blaster from George Lucas' original Star Wars trilogy. Rebel soldiers wielded silver-tipped blasters in both Star Wars: A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Similar weapons were prepared for Return of the Jedi, though they were never seen onscreen.
This blaster - commonly known as the BlasTech DH-17 - was built by the armory company Bapty & Co. from a real Sterling submachine gun and configured to fire blanks on set. It is believed to have been created for The Empire Strikes Back. While this particular blank-firing variant does not appear in either film - the Rebel blasters seen in Empire are solid resin castings, and none appear in Jedi - a similar live-fire rebel blaster with the custom-machined suppressor appears in blaster reference photos taken during preproduction on Jedi. It was likely fabricated in anticipation of live-fire battle sequences. The piece was purpose-built for the Star Wars films and remains instantly recognizable to fans and collectors.
Only a handful of these blank-firing Rebel blasters were retained by Bapty, which is believed to have kept just three-to-five examples in its inventory before selling them in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The blaster features detailed futuristic dressing, including a custom-machined silver-colored flash suppressor, greeblies mounted to one side, and a single-point scope affixed to a custom-made rod scope rail. A restrictor plug is fitted in the barrel to enable blank firing (now deactivated). The magazine underside bears the faded number "42." Every component is original to Bapty's production.
The Sterling submachine gun base has been professionally deactivated to U.K. standards, and a deactivation certificate is included. The trigger depresses, but the weapon is otherwise nonfunctional. The blaster exhibits chipped paint on the flash suppressor and light scuffing to its matte-black finish. Dimensions: 45 cm x 22 cm x 10 cm (17.75" x 8.75" x 4")
Firearm deactivated; see firearm deactivation notice in the Buyer's Guide.Other Names and Numbers
