Description

A framed piece of original concept artwork for an ultimately unused design for the poster for Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (20th Century Fox, 1983). The artwork depicts Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa against a background of the forest moon Endor with Scout Troopers flying out of the trees on speed bikes. The work is realized in prisma pencil and gouache on black paper with a printed title cel. Artists preferred using dark backgrounds because they were faster to work on than light backgrounds. George Lucas was presented with several different poster designs for the film, before ultimately choosing the "Lightsaber with Hands" style for one-sheet poster. Together with two original sketches for the design on onion paper (one large, one small) and a small card depicting the design without the Scout Troopers.
