Pinky Bethel, 1937

Entry/Object ID

Description

Pinky Bethel, North Fork Mono Indian, is shown here in Clovis during the Clovis Rodeo of April 1937. Pinky Bethel was, and is still thought of, as one of the legendary Indian Cowboys in Madera County whose Rawhide Reata's (Ropes) are legendary and considered a collector's item. During a trip up to Jackass Meadow, he was shoeing an "unruly" horse that kicked him in the leg, causing a wound that never healed which resulted in part of his leg being amputated. Pinky never married, nor had any children, preferring to live his life as a Cowboy for some of the ranchers of Madera County.
