Description

Sally Goodeye-Lewis, Chukchansi Yokuts, is shown here with her grandsons, Carl & Clifford Bushman. This photo was taken in August of 1930 at a ranch in Clovis, Fresno County, California where Sally and other Indians would pick grapes during the harvest. Sally and her family would work at the Sugar Pine Lumber Company during the Spring. Her children went to school at the Lumber Camp and she would do the laundry there. Then, later in the summer, a rancher from Clovis, Fresno County, California, would come with a wagon and pick up workers to take them to the fields in Clovis to pick grapes. It took two days to make the trip from Sugar Pine to Clovis in a wagon.
