Shown in this photo is a steam powered Donkey Engine located at Peckinpah Mill in North Fork, Madera County. A donkey engine, such as the one in this photo, had one or more drums, or winches, containing wire rope that could life, drag. and move logs from the stump to an accumulation point. The Donkey Engine could also be used to load logs on cars that transported logs to distant mill sites.Photograph Details
