Powerhouse #1, Unit 1 Rotor Lift

Name/Title

Powerhouse #1, Unit 1 Rotor Lift

Entry/Object ID

1064

Description

This photo reflects the rotating/enclosed part of a generator. The wheels on the end of the shafts are called "Pelton Wheels", which was the last name of the inventor, Lester Allan Pelton. The wheel extracts energy from the impulse of moving water, as opposed to water's dead weight like the traditional overshot water wheel. These wheels would have been encased in steel housing with the flow of water, via a pipe, directed towards the bottom of the wheel.
