Frances Sherman-Polkenhorn and Sam Polkenhorn, Jr. working in the grape fields of Madera County. After the Lumber season was over, many Indian families would work as migrant farm workers in the summer picking grapes. For example, in this photo, Frances and Sam would pick grapes and then put them on wooden trays to dry in the sun, which would result in the grapes becoming raisins..
