Context
From letter accompanying the donation: March 30, 2025
"Ella Gagne Sidelinger (1886-1963) and Stephen A. Sidelinger (1879-1956) lived in Malden in the early 1900's. They had a son, John Sidelinger (1916-2010) and a daughter, my mom, Miriam Mahela Sidelinger (lewis) (1921-2023) They moved from Malden to Reading when my mom was in about the 3rd grade which would put the year at about 1929. My mom remembered living in the "Jewish side" of the City and claimed their education was further advanced as a result. She skipped a grade when they moved to Reading.
Stephen Sidelinger was born in Washington, Maine and educated at what was the Easter State Normal School in Castine, Maine. He owned the Middlesex Market in Malden for many years. I have attached a picture of him on the right in front of his market, and with his half-brother Bela Sidelinger on the left. I also included a close up of the studio marker of the photo. My mother noted the picture was taken in the "early 1900's" He continued to own the market after the family moved to Reading and he commuted back and forth. I think he continued to own and operate the market until sometime after WWII.
