Description

This dress, which appears to be fashioned from rick-rack braid put together in a definite pattern with crochet cotton, was made by the late Mrs. Wm. Rodgers (1849-1926) of Sighthill District somewhere between 1870 and 1875. Mrs. Rodgers, who was born and raised in England, came to Canada with her husband and 2 children, Arthur and Kate, in 1892. This dress was made prior to her marriage while visiting a relative in the U.S.A. It is not certain when Mrs. Rodgers made this visit to the U.S.A. She made the dress for a 4 year old niece in England. This dress was treasured and kept in the family for many years before it found its way to Canada. It was sent by the niece for whom it was made to the great granddaughters of Mrs. Rodgers, Alison and Lynn Leckie (daughters of Doug Lecie of Rosehill district) in 1953.
