2 furrow horse-drawn This plow was purchased in Portage la Prairie from the Massey Harris dealer, George Burns, in April of 1917. On June 27th of the same year, John Beam used it at the Plowing Match held on the Charlie McKenzie farm. On June 22nd, 1922 the plowing match was opened by Lord Byng, the Governor-General of Canada. After making his opening remarks, he rode on the plow. The same day, using this plow, John Beam won the "best plowed land in the field" over a list of 53 competitors. This was the first time a 2 furrow plow had ever won this particular event of the match over walking plow entrants. In its earlier years it was used for farm plowing as well as competition. The plow was used regularly in competition in the boys' class, amateurs' and professionals' until 1954, a total of 37 years of competition.Collection
