Scope and Content

This folder contains eight brochures: 1. Brochure titled 'Yankee Cruise to the Entire Mediterranean' (1937) - Illustrated with full color paintings and line drawings, laid out in multi-page format. Singular! 2. Sailings and fares brochure titled 'Mediterranean and All Europe' (1950) - detailed information on sailing times, fares, cabins and shipboard life. Part-color, with interior drawings. 3. Brochure titled 'Modern American Living at Sea Makes its Bow' (1951) - printed to advertise the maiden voyage of the S.S. Independence. Contains photographs of Mediterranean destinations and interior and exterior drawings of the Independence. Part-color. 4. Brochure titled 'Gala Anniversary Cruise of the 29,500 Ton Sun-liner Independence' (1952) - Similar to item 3. Most interior drawings have been replaced with hand-colored black-and-white photographs. 5. Pamphlet titled 'Independence and Constitution' (1953) - advertises the routes, services and amenities of the titular vessels. Contains many hand colored black-and-white photographs. 6. Brochure titled 'Have fun, go tourist!' (1955) - advertise tourist class services on the Independence and Constitution. Full color, with hand colored photographs. Folds out to single page spread. 7. Brochure titled 'You can Cruise to Europe for as little as $16 a day' (1963) - advertises services to Europe aboard the S.S Atlantic, which AEL purchased from American Banner Lines. Contains prices, dates and sailings as well as details of optional side-trips. Hand-colored black-and-white photgraphs. 8. Brochure titled 'Is this the year for you to take a Sunlane Cruise to the Mediterranean?' (1965) - Similar to item 7. Bears the new company name of the time - American Export isbrandtsen Lines'. Full color
