-dolphin striker tip or martingale made of iron with 1 1/4" dia. hole in center -attached tag: "Found on Star of India/purpose unknown-*dolphin striker tip (?) from this or some other ship maybe*or martingale" -in this case, martingale means a lower stay for the jib boom or flying jib boom of a sailing vessel to bear the strain of the head stays -dolphin striker: a short spar extending straight down from the end of the bowsprit
