Scope and Content

This folder consists of seven items: 1.SS Ile de France: Single folded poster-size page. Dated July 1, 1927, and hand dated May 6, 1929, (also hand notated "1st class"). Ship's deck plans. 2.French Line SS Ile de France Plan of Third Class Accommodations: Single, poster-sized cardstock page, folded. Undated, but hand-dated May 6, 1929. Provides deck plans for the Ile de France (I) and provides several photos of third class accommodations. 3.Your Gay Entree into a Carribean Holiday: Stapled, multi-page, letter-sized booklet, undated, but probably ca. mid 1950s. Describes ports, provides sailing dates and pictures of accommodations, ammenities and activities aboard for a 12-17 day Carribean cruise aboard the Ile de France. 4.Ile de France-New York-Plymouth-Le Havre: Multi-page stapled booklet with color cover. Undated but probably ca. mid 1930s. Provides nearly full-page photos of the art deco interior of the Ile de France and contains text comparing the ship to a "novel, floating province of France." 5. SS Ile de France, the Rue de la Paix of the Atlantic: Single, folded, black and white page, undated. Provides numerous small photos of interior of vessel, and provides a simple overview of the differences between accommodation classes. 6.The French Line Proudly Re-Introduces the SS Ile de France: Single, folded page, dated ca. 1945 when the vessel was decomissioned from its British wartime utilization. Brochure provides renderings of the newly-redesigned interior. Vessel was gutted of its art deco interior design and renovated after it was used to ferry American and British soldiers back to their respective countries at war's end. 7.SS Ile de France First Class Deck Plans: Undated, ca. 1920s folded, multi-page brochure with color-cover. Provides photos of accommodations and ammennities and provides deck plans and general information for the SS Ile de France.
