Scope and Content

This folder consists of four items: 1. The Grace Log January-February 1957, "Santa Rosa Keel Laying...": Cover only, to Grace Lines publication. Back of page features Davidson Chemical Corp. advertisment. 2. The Grace Log, Special Issue, Grace Line's New Santa Rosa: Multi-page stapled booklet dated July-August 1958. Cover features Santa Rosa underway, steaming into Port of New York. Periodical of the Grace Lines Co. which acts as a showbook for the then, newly launched Santa Rosa (II). Features photos of the vessel, photos and biographies of crewmembers, engineers, captains etc. Details construction of the vessel, provides Grace Lines historical timeline, and provides basic info about cruising on Grace Line vessels. Profiles of artists and their works featured aboard provided, also, Grace Airlines featurette tells potential passengers about airline service through and over the Andes as part of a cruising itinerary. Booklet addressed to Kelso Travel Bureau, Pasadena. 3. New York Herald Tribune " New Caribbean Liner: S.S. Santa Rosa": Part-color, multi-page newspaper insert. Newsprint. Dated Sun. June 22, 1958. A special advertising insert to the New York Herald Tribune showcasing the new vessel, the SS Santa Rosa. Provides articles describing the line's history, the ship's construction, the diversity of the crew, and the the luxury of the cruising experience. 4. Complimentary to Passengers, the Spanish-American Issued every morning on board the "Santa" Liners. Daily Radio News: Single, folded piece of kraft paper, stamped with letterhead, dated Sunday, July 23rd, 1933. Shipboard "newspaper" featuring typed radioed news stories. News stories featured on this date were... "declines in the stock market", "Naval Officer suspended from plaine by toes survives unscathed," "Hoax Alleging Roosevelt's death", "Lindbergh Arrives in Greenland" and "Grain Prices Plummet". Back page of document provides information about shipboard events for that day, (Episcopal Services offered, and time provided for disembarkation of luggage at port of Los Angeles)
