Description

Solomon Islands? -ornamental hair stick: cane stick with plant fiber woven to surround stick; few short strands of blue and white beads on one end -very similar to Solomon Island styles in terms of color and pattern. The red/orange-yellow combination of weaving is very representative of Solomon Island culture and can be found in many objects from hair ornaments to decorative wrapping on archery equipment. Hair ornaments, such as combs from Malaita and this stick, consisted of woven orchid stem and coconut-frond cuticle dyed with mulberry to produce the red and yellow/orange colors.
