The company dropped liner service in 1969 to concentrate on its cruising ventures. Due to the 1973 oil crisis, the line was forced to end its service. The rights to the Hamburg/Hanseatic logo and ships' names were purchased in 1997 by HAPAG Lloyd. The ship, the MS Hanseatic, continues to cruise, as such, under HAPAG Lloyd's control. (As of 2011)
