Scope and Content

This folder consists of seven items: 1. SS Niew Amsterdam First Class Plan: Multi-page, stapled booklet with color prints, undated, but ca. mid 1930s. Deck plans featuring photos of shipboard life and accommodations/ammennities. 2.Cabin or Tourist Class for Travelwise Passengers SS Niew Amsterdam- Proud Flagship of a Famous Fleet: Single, folded bicolor page, dated May 1954. Brochure targeting potential Cabin and Tourist Class passengers. Features many small photos of shipboard life. Does not feature deckplans, unlike those aimed at first class patrons. Cover features photo taken from dockside vantage point so that the ship itself, and even the gangway, appear looming and imposing. Perhaps intended to evoke a feeling of awe or grandeur at the size of the vessel, and the fact that the viewer is small, (insignificant?) in comparision 3.Niew Amsterdam Cruise Plan: Multi-page stapled and folded color brochure, undated but ca. late 1950s. Very large format set of deck plans featuring color photos of passengers, accommodations and ammennities. 4.Luxury Cruise Around South America: Single, folded page. Bicolor brochure, undated but ca. 1950s. Provides rates of fare, itinerary, port information and general information for 50 day Winter cruise aboard Niew Amsterdam, circumnavigating South America. Many black and white photos of passengers engaged in shipboard activities. 5.Preliminary Cabin Class Plan of Twin Screw Turbine Steamer "Niew Amsterdam": Single folded page dated Dec. 7, 1937. Deck plans for cabin-class accommodations aboard the Niew Amsterdam. 6.Preliminary Tourist and Third Class Plan of SS "Niew Amsterdam": Single folded page dated Dec. 1937: Deck plans for Tourist and Cabin-Class accommodations aboard the Niew Amsterdam. 7.Holland America Line- Niew Amsterdam- Cabin Class Plan: Multi-page stapled and folded brochure dated Jul. 1938. Provides deck plans for the Niew Amsterdam. Features a color print of the vessel underway.
