Scope and Content

This folder consists of five items: 1. Home Lines Rate Sheet: Tricolor, multi-page stapled brochure, dated 1949. Provides rates of fare for transatlantic sailings aboard the vessels SS Atlantic and MV Italia. 2.Double Incentive for Successful Motivation and Awards Conventions at Sea, SS Oceanic, SS Homeric. Color, multi-page stapled brochure, dated 1967. Notable brochure attempts to persuade potential passengers to host business conventions and awards ceremonies aboard. First instance, (in the Kingsbury Collection) of cruise marketers persuading customers to reconcile business with pleasure in the cruise-setting. Many small color photos of shipboard activities, and ammennites. Brochure features presumably, early use of, highlighted and bulleted "business buzzwords" such as "efficiency" and "talent" for the purpose of appealing to businesspeople. 3.Home Lines Luxury Passenger Service Between Canada, Europe: Single page, folded color brochure, undated but ca. late 1950s. Provides many photos of passengers engaged in shipboard social activities. Notably, each photo features numerous individuals, when frequently, most contemperaneous cruise brochures depict mainly couples or three individuals per photo. Perhaps meant to evoke the "party atmosphere" of the vessels. 4.Stella Maris, Princess of Cruise Yachts, SunLine Vacations: Single color page, folded. Undated, but ca. late 1950s. Provides illustrations and color photos of shipboard activities, accommodations and ammenities aboard the Stella Maris, which was operating under charter to SunLine Vacations. 5.Mediterranean Cruises, MV Italia, SS Atlantic: Color, multi-page stapled booklet dated Nov. 1950. Provides numerous photos of people/things at ports of call, provides rates of fair, general information and sailing dates. Information about ports is primary focus of text.
