Scope and Content

This album contains 270 photographs taken during John (Ivan) Kedacic's (1905-1987) service aboard the U.S.S. California as a coxswain. Kedacic, a Yugoslav national, entered the U.S. Navy in 1926 and obtained an honorable discharge in 1930, serving on the California the entire time. The photographs include numerous shots of the ship and her personnel both aboard and ashore. These include images of the ship in dry-dock, at anchor, and at sea. Other vessels, including an aircraft carrier which appears to be either the Lexington or the Saratoga are included, as well as photos of Honolulu and the Far East. Some of the photographs are identified, and some are missing.
