Scope and Content

This series consists of one item: The Flotta Lauro, or Lauro Lines was an Italian company based out of Geneva, Switzerland. The company offered Mediterranean Cruises from approximately 1950-2000. The line is infamous for its misadventures. Its vessel Angelina Lauro was burned while in port in St. Thomas, and its vessel Achille Lauro was hijacked by the PLO in 1989 and set afire. The line was involved in a precedent-setting US Federal court case brought after the Achille Lauro's hijacking.
