Scope and Content

This folder consists of five items: 1. Bremen, Europa Cabin Class: Multi-page, tricolor, stapled booklet, dated Apr. 1938. Pictorial overview of the cruising lifestyle, with especial emphasis on dining aboard. Brochure uses foil-style metallic ink on each page in a futuristic starburst pattern. 2. Third Class, Bremen, Europa, the Speedy Fliers to England, France, Germany: Single, folded bicolor page, brochure. Dated Dec. 15, 1935. Pictorial overview of cruising in the third passenger-class aboard the vessels Bremen and Europa. Photos and text emphasize outdoor, (deckside) activities for passengers of this class, but they also stress the quality and quantity of food that is available to passengers in this class. 3. Bremen, Europa: Multi-page, black white and foil, stapled booklet. Dated May, 1932. Features full-page photos of accommodations and amenities aboard the vessels Bremen and Europa. Cover features print of engraving of the topdeck of the Bremen, done with a "heavy hand" in an "industrial" style. Each page features two bands of vibrant silver foil, outlining each photo. 4. How to See Italy: Multi-page, stapled, color-cover, sepia-toned interior, booklet. Dated 1904. Very early brochure, features only two photos of either a vessel, or passengers aboard the vessel. Features numerous photos of landmarks from ports in Italy. Features no information about cruise specifics, but instead discusses the history, allure and mythology of ports of call. Much poetry and many literary quotes are given, which pertain to each featured port. Smells acidic, handle with care. 5. Glimpses of Spain and Morocco, A few Facts and Hints for the Passengers of the North German Lloyd Steamship Co. and of the German Mediterranean Service: Multi-page, foil and color-cover, sepia interior, string-bound booklet. Dated 1896. Purely port-information about Spain and Morocco, with especial attention paid to houses of worship in each country. Features no cruise information, (was intended for registered passengers?). Small sepia photos of ports of call, and people at ports of call featured. Special section in last pages provides travelers a basic Spanish vocabulary phrase-guide. Fragile and old, fraying along bound edge, handle with care.
