The NYK Line, or the Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, (Japan Mail Shipping Line) was founded in 1885 as the result of a merger between two privately-funded cargo/passenger liner services. The line offered/offers cruise and cargo services between the Japanese Islands and ports in Asia and North America. The line lost most of its fleet to destruction/reparations during WWII, but soon recovered its numbers. Today, (2011) the line operates about 50 cargo vessels, and cruise ships, (under its cruise subsidiary "Crystal Cruises").Collection
