K0001.114.01Scope and Content
This folder consists of one item:
1. Toyo Kisen-Kaisha, Oriental Steamship Company: Multi-page stapled, color-cover booklet. Dated August, 1910. Provides very detailed port information for each port of call on an around-the world, (transatlantic via the Suez Canal) sailing from New York City to Japan. Many small photos depict things/places/people at ports of call. Photos chosen provide very clear example of Edwardian focus on aesthetics of the masculine/feminine binary, with "softer", "feminine" landscapes being depicted in photos of Japanese landmarks, and "rugged", "masculine" American landscapes being chosen to represent America in the brochure. Brochure refers potential passengers to their travel agent for further information and booking.Collection
