Scope and Content

This series consists of one folder: The Pacific Far East Line was founded in California in the 1940s by a group of businesspeople who sought to profit off of transporting government "reefer" (perishable goods) cargoes between US Pacific ports and Asian ports. The line offered staterooms for twelve paying passengers on its cargo vessels. In the 1950s the line purchased several devoted passenger liners from Matson Navigation Company, including the SS Leilani, which continued to sail its previous Matson-route to Hawaii under the Pacific Far East Lines. The line dissolved in the 1970s. (Awaiting better information)
