THe Royal Viking Cruise Line was founded in 1972, and operated out of San Francisco until 1998 when the line was absorbed into the Cunard Line. The line was intended to appeal to wealthy retirees, and its fleet boasted many unusual features for vessels from that era, including shipboard chapels, sky-lounge restaurants and single-seating dinners. The line's vessels accommodated roughly 500 passengers initially, but after several vessels were retrofitted with prefabricated extension segments, 700-800 passengers could be accommodated aboard.Collection
