Ship's captain's strong box ca. 1840. Cube-shaped iron box, with protruding rivets. Trap door on top. Large brass key is labeled and kept with other keys in closet in library office.
Object may have come with the Star of India to San Diego. Possibly belonging to the Alaska Packers Association, or even to the original ship Euterpe. Believed to be of Italian design.Collection
