USS Great Northern (Navy Registy # 4569) World War I Photograph Album. The covers of this album have been lost. The black and white photgraphs depict the Great Northern's Atlantic crossing, panoramic views of the Azores, views of the port city of Brest, views of New York, crew portraits, and collision damage.
Also pasted among the photographs are newspaper clippings, colored postcards, crew lists, and ephemera.
At a later date brief descriptions of scenes and names of persons have been added with ball-point pen, presumably by one of the sailors featured in the album (see caption to the crow's nest photograph). Some and perhaps all photographs have descriptions written on the back in ink. Some have also been annotated with red marker!
