Nelson Aerials - Marshallton, DE, looking east (color corrected)
Marshallton, DE, is named after two of Israel Marshall’s uncles who established the first commercial plated iron rolling mill in the country in 1836. At the lower right is Anna P. Mote School constructed in the mid-1950s. Robert Kirkwood Highway runs diagonally across the image, with Rt 41, center right to center top. Running parallel to Kirkwood Highway is Old Capital Trail, an original road connecting Wilmington to Washington DC.
Duncan Road is along the right side of the image with the former Marshall Iron Rolling Mill site clearly visible. The mill site would become part of Delaware Hard Fiber in the early 1900s leading to ownership by Continental-Diamond Fiber Company. At the time this image were taken, the site was a division of Haveg (owned by Hercules Incorporated until eventually purchased by Ametek in 1964.Photograph Details
