Work Report: Tuesday night, 23 volunteers were present, including 4 who attended a Museum Committee meeting chaired by Dan Citron. The door frame on the popcorn machine was completed and installed, and the machine is approved for active duty in the coming weeks. Most of the Stanleys had the annual greasing of front ends and steering completed. On the Model 87, the aluminum differential case was removed, cleaned, and smoothed again to correct the oil leak from the engine case. The area around and under the water tanks (under the back seat) was carefully studied and measured, and plans moved ahead to make the two previous tanks in this area into one, which will provide a much more satisfactory arrangement. The pump box, firewall, and new location for the brake master cylinder were improved on the Model 607. The Rauch & Lang electric had its final fender attached and is getting very close to operation. The “Lionel team” is nearing completion on the improvement to the standard gauge layout.
On Thursday, the Models 87, 607, and the Rauch & Lang continued to be the main focus. Seventeen volunteers worked on these, plus lining the parking lot for the coming season, and further cleaning, polishing, and painting the locomotives for their service on April 7. On the 607, the bracket for the 607’s master cylinder was further refined and fitted, and many small fittings and parts were sorted for their exact locations in the car. It was determined just how the 87’s water tanks will be attached to each other, and additional measuring has assured they will still fit under the back seat without lifting the body from the chassis. Their future space has been cleaned and primed. Small brackets and hangers have also been cleaned and primed. The rear differential case has been sealed and will set up before the engine case is again filled with oil. Work continues in our library by our twin librarians. The planned phone connection to the ticket booth was temporarily unsuccessful as the wire has disappeared
On Tuesday, the following volunteers took part: Jerry Lucas (in charge), Richard Bernard (meeting), Dan Citron (meeting), Kelly Williams (meeting), Susan Randolph (meeting), Jay Williams, Mark Hopkins, Mark Russell, Jerry Novak, Dave Leon, Steve Bryce, Mac Taylor, Tim Ward, Tim Nolan, Ted Kamen, Bob Jordan (in charge of 607 project), Dennis Dragon, Bob Stransky, Emil Christofano, Jeff Pollock, Ed Hoffmeister, Betty Hoffmeister, and Tom Marshall.
