Nelson Aerials - Pusey Dam and end of Sharpless Road (Route 82 intersection) above Ashland, DE (color corrected)
“Pusey’s Dam” was named after the Pusey family who operated the flour mill at Ashland. The dam is located just below the image center and is much as it remains today. Sharpless Road crossed the Red Clay below the dam and intersects with Creek Road winding top to bottom in the slide. Oversee Farm is all the land to the right of Creek Road and from the two white walls on Creek Road to the image top. The tracks of the Wilmington & Western Railroad cross from upper right to lower left. This image shows most of the flour mill’s headrace still intact. We see the mill race passing under Sharpless road and the railroad before traveling a short distance and diverted back to Red Clay Creek. The mills were shut down about 10 years prior to when this slide was taken and most of the mill race filled in.Photograph Details
