Context

From gallery label: These items belonged to William A. Thawley (PCP, Class of 1938), the father of the donor. The award (PCP.2011.1.4), shaped like a piece of laboratory glassware, commemorates the Golden Anniversary of Thawley's graduation, and so was presented to him in 1988. The needlepoint is a reproduction of the U.S. postage stamp (#1473) issued in November, 1972 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the founding of the American Pharmaceutical Association; it pictures a mortar and pestle, the Bowl of Hygieia [for which see the print at the exhibition entrance], and 19th-century medicine bottles.
