Group of 33 botanical lantern slides from the "Private Collection" of John M. Maisch (1831-1893)

Context

John M. Maisch (1831-1893) opened a pharmacy at 1607 Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia in 1866 and joined the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy faculty. In 1867, he was appointed as a Professor of Materia Medica and Botany at PCP. In 1871, Maisch sold his pharmacy after being appointed as the editor of the American Journal of Pharmacy, a position he held for 22 years. Between 1870 and 1881, he was responsible for managing the chemical laboratory at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
