Context

About the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention: The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention was established in 1820 in Washington, DC. Despite inviting all state medical societies to send delegates, only 11 states participated. The first USP consisted of around 200 drugs, which were considered the most thoroughly established and best understood at the time. In 1900, the U.S. Pharmacopeial Board of Trustees was created.
