Scope and Content

Notebook with handwritten dictation of the speech given by William Procter Jr. at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy's December 27th, 1870 meeting

Context

This handwritten book contains William Procter Jr.’s good words about the progress of pharmacy worldwide as well as his formal resignation as editor of The American Journal of Pharmacy. After decades as a dedicated editor, Procter said in front of the entire Committee that “the work has been continued regularly as a matter of duty, but it has ceased to be a pleasure. Under these circumstances, I desire to carry out an intention entertained for several years & withdraw from the editorship.” The end of the book is filled with 58 signatures of significant figures, such as Joseph Remington, Charles Bullock, John M. Maisch, Edward Parrish, Richard and Robert Shoemaker, John and Frank Wyeth, and Henry Power
