Context

S.F. Durst & Company operated from the early 20th century until 1977, with a location at 5317 North Third Street in Philadlephia. Samuel F. Durst founded the manufacturing pharmacy business S.F. Durst & Co. in the early 1900s. The company was primarily family-owned, with Samuel F. Durst’s two sons, Richard and Robert, serving as company managers. In the 1950s, John B. Lewis, a Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science alumnus, became their Director of Research. In 1971, the company’s product line and inventory was acquired by the Missouri-based corporation O’Neal, Jones, & Feldman. S.F. Durst remained as a Philadelphia-based division of O’Neal until 1977, when it was closed and officially moved to the Missouri headquarter.
