Context

Wm. R. Warner & Company operated from the mid-1860s to 1950. Their store was located at 154 North Third Street until 1876 and then at 1228 Market Street until 1899. By 1886 they operated a laboratory at Broad and Wallace Streets in Philadelphia. William R. Warner, an 1856 Philadelphia College of Pharmacy graduate, purchased the wholesale drug business of John C. Baker and, from this Third Street location, manufactured and marketed sugar-coated pills under the name Wm. R. Warner and Company.
