Monstrous Beast / Ving-Cingviesme
Livre
Ambroise Pare was a pioneering French barber-surgeon and author who made monumental beast with a human-like face restrained securely by a rope within a wooded landscape populated by small figures. The print is artfully integrated into a historical text block from a treatise detailing unusual fauna, exotic wildlife, and legendary creatures from ancient folklore.
This detailed plate serves as a significant visual documentation published in Paris during the sixteenth century within a groundbreaking medical and natural history compendium.
