CE 1771 Feb 16 New York Ten PoundsDescription
New York February 16, 1771 £10 Very Fine.
This is a handsome series of New York notes, the first issue printed since 1760. They were much different than the earlier notes in size and style. As with the other genuine notes from the series, Gallaudet engraved the intricate border cuts and the New York Arms. On the £10 denomination, the left border cut has been flipped so that NEW YORK now reads downward (done to prevent note-raising from the lower denominations, which have NEW YORK reading upward.) Stains, lengthy tears, tape repair, backing.Create Date
