Buffalo Nickel (Indian Head Nickel), 1937-D
United States Mint, Denver, 1937 CE
Copper-nickel five-cent pieces designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser. The obverse features a composite portrait derived from several Native American models, while the reverse depicts an American bison. Introduced during a major artistic redesign of U.S. coinage in the early twentieth century, the Buffalo nickel became one of the most iconic coin types in American numismatic history.
