CE 1959 – Austria, Second Republic, Aluminum 10 GroschenDescription
Aluminum-magnesium 10 groschen coin issued in 1959 by the Republic of Austria, struck at the Vienna Mint. The obverse displays a large numeral “10,” the date 1959, and the denomination “Groschen” within a scalloped border. The reverse features the Austrian federal eagle with outstretched wings, a crown, chest shield, and broken chains, flanked by the numerals “10” and accompanied by the inscription “Republik Österreich” (“Republic of Austria”). The broken chains symbolize Austria’s liberation from Nazi rule in 1945. The groschen was the subdivision of the Austrian schilling, with 100 groschen equal to one schilling. The specimen has pale silver-gray surfaces with scattered dark specks, fine abrasions, slight granular texture, and some softness in the eagle’s finer details. The inscriptions, denomination, and date remain legible. Standard weight: 1.1 g; diameter: 20 mm.Create Date
