Name/Title
CE 1975 – Ireland, Copper-Nickel 10 Pence, Atlantic SalmonDescription
Copper-nickel 10 pence coin issued by the Republic of Ireland in 1975. The obverse depicts a traditional Irish harp with the inscription “Éire” (“Ireland”) to the left and the date 1975 to the right. The reverse features an Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) facing right, with the denomination “10 P” below. The salmon design was created by Percy Metcalfe for the Irish florin introduced in 1928 and retained for the decimal ten-pence coin. Introduced into circulation in 1971, the ten-pence denomination replaced the florin at an equivalent monetary value. The 1975 issue was struck in the United Kingdom before Ireland began domestic coin production in 1976. The specimen exhibits yellowish-gray surfaces with darker brown-gray discoloration, scattered fine scratches, small dark spots, and wear to the finer details of the harp and salmon. The principal designs, inscriptions, and date remain legible. Standard weight: 11.31 g; diameter: 28.5 mm. Catalogue references: KM#23; Spink#6704.Create Date
